Have You Been Diagnosed With Diabetes?
Many people are being diagnosed with diabetes every day, or maybe you have been told that you are pre-diabetic? Are you able to keep your numbers under control? What do you do to keep blood sugar down, do you use drugs, diet or both?
I recently found out that I am diabetic, for the preceding year I had been considered pre-diabetic by my primary care provider, but I did not take it seriously or do anything to stop the progression.
Pre-Diabetes Did Not Motivate Me
I don’t know why I did not get motivated when I was diagnosed as a pre-diabetic, but since being told that I am now officially a diabetic, I have been trying harder to control my blood sugar.
For the past few months I have been working on my diet and trying to exercise, I have lost about 15 pounds, but have a lot more to loose.
If you are diabetic or pre-diabetic, I would like to hear how you got it under control, please share with us. Leave suggestions, tips and comments below…
Controlling Diabetes With Diet Not Drugs
Are you controlling you diabetes without the help of drugs? Because I have been injured by drugs in the past I have chosen to try and control my diabetes without drugs, changing my diet along with some exercise….
To help me do that I was prescribed a glucose monitor and I have been using to keep track of where I am. I have also started seeing a Dietitian/Nutritionist I see her once a month.
What The Dietician Told Me
The Dietician/Nutritionist told me that not only can she help with my diet but she is there for moral support, which I guess is a good thing, she says people do better when they have human touch as in personal interaction.
So far she has instructed me to reduce my starch carbs to 45 grams per meal, and given me a chart so that I can see what foods fall into that category…
Did you know that milk and yogurt are high enough in sugar to be included in my carb choices? Yes, I was surprised…
I thought I was going to have to give up some of my favorite foods, what kinds of foods do you think a diabetic should stop eating?
I was surprised to find that I could eat all the foods that I like, including beets and rice, if I measure them they can fit into my plan, of course, It would be better to eat brown rice instead of white rice.
What I Am Eating
In addition to following a restricted carb regimen, I am also following a new way of eating that includes more vegetables, some fruit, whole foods, no sugar, no flour, no added oil.
I recently learned of a way to lose weight and keep it off permanently, it is similar to the approach I took when I quit smoking, I made myself a rule to never have even one cigarette again, and that along with wanting to please my God, I have not gone back.
I am learning that for permanent weight loss to take place there has to be a permanent change. Maybe like me you have lost weight only to gain it back, I have tried many diets but when I went off the weight came back.
Bright Line Rules
So I have decided to use a technique based on a legal term of making Bright Line Rules for my eating… A rule that I never break so that I can have permanent results…
You may have seen me talking about Bright Line Eating and Bright Line Meals, I hope to share with you recipes, hints and tips that I learn along the way…
Bright Line Eating was developed by Susan Pierce Thompson Ph.D., her site is here: http://susanpeircethompson.com/ I hope you will want to come alone with me…
