Moringa Oleifera Seeds
What are Moringa Oleifera Seeds? Moringa Oleifera Seeds are the seeds of the Moringa tree.
The Seeds can grow a new tree or in some places are eaten as preventative medicine. One or two seeds a day is thought to prevent malaria and boost health… Honestly, they taste awful to me…
The seeds are also high in Oleic Acid, the essential fatty acid that is most prevalent in olive oil and a good source of EFA’s.
Can Be Used To Clean Dirty Water
When expressed the oil can be used in cooking and cosmetic applications. The leftover pulp from extracting oil from the seed can also be used to purify dirty water, the process is being studied for use in countries where importing chemicals for water cleaning systems is too expensive.
Not only can Moringa be used to clean water but, because of is nutrient content, Moringa has been getting a lot attention these days, probably rightly so, many are calling it a “Super Food”.
If you do a search for Moringa, you will find that the Moringa Leaf is selling for upwards to $25.00 per pound, quite a hefty price tag for a leaf.
Why is Moringa getting so much attention?
It is because Moringa has a unique nutrient profile. Moringa is extremely high in over 90 nutrients, including 18 amino acids, and include the 8 essential amino acids that our bodies need but can not make.
- Moringa has 3 times the Iron as Spinach
- 4 times the Calcium as Milk
- 4 times the vitamin A as Carrots
- Higher in vitamin C than Oranges
- Moringa is high in B vitamins B, B1, B2, B3, D, and E, polyphenols, minerals, fiber and is one of the highest naturally occurring sources of chlorophyll
What Part Is Edible?
The Leaves, Seeds, Flowers & Roots are used for food or medicine and is known to cure and prevent malnutrition, and satisfy hunger. The leaves are what I use for food, the roots, flowers, and possibly the seeds contain a toxin that while a little can be good for you to much can be harmful. I prefer not to eat them.
Can Be Fast Growing
When given what it needs a Moringa tree grows very fast, and can grow up to 20 feet in one year, is drought resistant and grows well in dry arid climates. And yes, Moringa grows very well here in the Arizona heat.
Great Food For Vegans & Vegetarians
Moringa is especially beneficial to Vegetarians and Vegans, because of its complete amino acid profile, since most plant foods are made up of only a few of the essential amino acids. Eating Moringa may be one way that humans can get away from eating animal proteins without becoming protein deficient.
I think Moringa is a tree that everyone on this Earth should have access to.
