My Aching Tummy
For as long as I can remember I have had stomach troubles… My husband Harvey can eat almost anything and not have a problem, but not me.
In the Genes
I think that I must have inherited these Tummy Troubles, because many from my father’s side of the family either has or had stomach issues. My Father, His Sister, My Grandfather & My Sister… My Mother does not seem to have any stomach problems…
What I Do
Over the years I have learned a few ways to get over the pain of poor digestion. These are things that have worked for me…
The first thing that I used to do for pain after eating a meal, was to take a few tablespoons of good yogurt that contained active pro-biotics… At first that usually was enough to make me feel better, but after some years the Yogurt seemed not to work as good as it once did…
Another thing that I have learned to do is to take a teaspoon or two of good Apple Cider Vinegar in enough water to get it down, the Apple Cider Vinegar seems to help my digestion. I choose a vinegar with the Mother, the mother culture contains good bacteria for the gut…
Did you know that Sauerkraut is good for stomach and digestion problems? It was quite surprising to me. And you do not have to eat the Sauerkraut for to help just drink some of the juice that it comes in…
I usually mix about 3 or 4 ounces with water… And believe it or not I like the taste and it really helps…
One day I was talking to a friend about Sauerkraut, and she told me that her doctor suggested that she try Sauerkraut juice for morning sickness when she was pregnant, and she like me was surprised that it helped…
Sauerkraut is a good source of pro-biotics, and I would guess that any fermented vegetable would have the same good qualities, and help with digestion.

Papaya enzymes have also been a great help and you can usually find them in most grocery stores… I like to buy mine online, and sometimes run out before I can get more…
If I had to only have one thing for my digestion I would choose enzymes… The reason that I choose enzymes is that they are quick, easy to take and they work. I only have to pop them in my mouth, chew them up, have a little drink of water to make sure they go down… and they work.
I also find that drinking water is a great help, I think that is helps to break down the food and helps it to digest faster… Some recommend drinking a large glass of water before a meal to encourage digestion. I often forget.
If I have been drinking enough water I usually do not drink more if my stomach hurts until I have done some of the other things, because sometimes the water seems to make it worse if I drink a lot before taking something to aid digestion…
My stomach seems to have a hard time digesting foods with cooked fats, there seems to be more digestive issues after I have eaten and big cooked meal high in animal foods which are higher in fats than fruits and vegetable.
High-fat plant foods do not seem to cause me any trouble…
I spend much of my day at my computer working and eating at my desk… When I am done working and no longer in a sitting position, I begin to notice that my food has not digested… My Stomach starts to hurt, and I have more burping and symptoms of indigestion.
Lately, I have been thinking that sitting for long periods somehow prevents my food from moving or digesting properly as if sitting is preventing it…
Now I am working to move more after I eat, not having stomach pain is my motivation…
My wish is that you do not have Tummy Troubles, but if you do that maybe I have mentioned something that can help you to feel better.
And of course, I need to let you know that I am not an expert, or a medical professional, just a person with a body that sometimes needs help…
