Off Grid Solar Review: SunBell Solar Lamp & Cell Phone Charger
SunBell Solar Lamp & Cell Phone Charger Off Grid Review… I never expected to be reviewing this solar lamp and cell phone charger, but I have to say that I do love the idea of anything off grid solar…
No Need To Build Your Own Solar Panels
There is no need to build your own solar panels when you can get devices like the SunBell Solar Lamp & Cell Phone Charger,,,
It may have never crossed your mind to build a solar panel,,, but is has crossed mine. We live in Arizona,,, (hot as hot) sunny Arizona and wanted to take advantage of all that sunshine, by having solar panels installed on our house.
It wasn’t long after contacting several solar installers that we had estimates in our hands. We were saddened to learn that even though solar prices were going down we still could not afford to have solar power professionally installed.
Out of stubbornness I began to look for less expensive alternatives… and I found a few, we could save money if we bought a pallet of discount panels and installed them ourselves, we could buy the panels and hire a contractor to install them, we could even build our own panels and install them…
I forget now if building our own panels would save us much more than buying a pallet of discounted panels, but it got me thinking about building my own solar panels, and it was not hard to find help to do so, thanks to YouTube….
I even considered taking a solar installation class at the local college, but when it came down to it, I guess I chickened out, or just got distracted but I never followed through… Maybe some day… But in the mean time devices like the SunBell Solar Lamp & Cell Phone Charger will satisfy my need for solar power…

SunBell Solar Lamp & Cell Phone Charger
When my new SunBell solar lamp & cell phone charger arrived I was so excited that I could not wait to open the box and try it out… After opening the box, I did not expect to find all the parts inside the bell, and mistakenly thought some parts were missing, silly me,,, but once I removed the solar panel from the base of the bell I found all the parts were there, this is what I found:
- Solar Panel with 9 foot cable
- Led Light & LiFePO4 Battery
- Stand & Lamp Shade
- USB Phone Charger
- Instruction Manual
After figuring out where all the parts went, which did not take to long, but being that I am a woman (I was afraid of breaking something) reading the manual was necessary.
As soon as I got all the parts in the right places, I took the SunBell solar panel outside and set it in full sun where it could charge… Charging is supposed to take 4-10 hours depending on the suns location, and whether there were clouds or not…
While it is charging there is a green blinking light…When it is fully charged the light will be a steady green light… It was a good sunny day and no clouds and it took just 4 hours to get a full charge… Woohoo!
3 Levels Of Intensity
The lamp has 3 choices for light intensity, one click for the brightest, two clicks for the mid range, and three clicks for the lowest level… Each intensity has its own need for power,,, The brightest setting will exhaust the battery charge in 4.5 hours, mid range will give you 15 hours and the lightest level will give you 100 hours of low light…
Ways To Adjust Lamp
There are several ways to adjust the lamp,,, You can use it as an over head light by hanging it from the sturdy handle. It can be used as a lamp stand and light, then you can remove the light and battery pack from the bell and wrap it around your neck for close up work…
Cell Phone Charger
The cell phone charger will work with any cell phone that uses a USB cable,,, While I have a phone that uses a USB cable I was nervous about connecting my phone to the SunBell Battery,,, but I did connect it anyway, and I could see my phone had switched to charge.
I did not use the SunBell to completely charge my phone because it already had a full charge, I keep my cell phone docked on a charger, and so far have not had or made the opportunity to give it a full charge with the Sunbell.
Other reviewers I found commented that using the SunBell to charge a cell phone might not give a full charge, but would be great in emergencies when you have no power and need to make a call.
I also found a review that mentioned using a 12 volt car battery charger with the SunBell to charge an iPhone, but I did not understand that… Maybe it might make sense to you…
My Over All Impression
I love the SunBell Solar Lamp & Cell Phone Charger… I may not use it to charge my cell phone while I have power, but it would be good to have in case of power outages… I can see using the SunBell lamp anytime when light is needed, not only in emergencies, and I have been trying to come up with other devices that I could use with the SunBell battery…
If I had the means, I would buy one for all my family & friends… It would be satisfying sharing it with those who live in areas that normally do not have power for lights at night… And I guess that I am not the only one to feel this way…

My review is based on my opinion of the SunBell and is in no way influenced by the fact that I was given a free unit to try.
