Making tea, of any kind may seem like a simple thing, and really it is… Making Moringa Tea is not much different except you have to either grow your own Moringa leaves or find a good source to purchase from.

How To Make Moringa Tea, Using Dried Moringa Leaves
Growing The Moringa
There are several ways to grow your own Moringa leaves, from seeds, from plants, or roots. I prefer growing Moringa for leaves intensively in beds from seeds, depending on the size of your bed you could use from 30 to 50 seeds or more. I like to plant my beds in 8×4 foot sections and plant 50 seeds to a bed.
Harvesting The Moringa Leaves
When the Moringa grows up to about 4 or 5 feet tall and is full of leaves, I will harvest the leaves by pruning the Moringa trees back to 1 or 2 foot high, then let them grow back and start over harvesting them when they grow back out… This cycle can be repeated for the duration of the growing period which is usually the summer months.
Washing The Leaves
Before you dry the Moringa prunings they need to be washed, this year we had a large flock of sparrows living in our backyard, they seemed to love perching on our Moringa seedlings, I can only image what they may have dropped on the small trees…
To wash them I fill a large container with clean water, then remove the branches and add each one to the water and swish around until I feel that they are clean enough.
Drying Moringa Leaves
When the leaves have been washed, the leaves are then bundled and tied together for drying… I use twist ties or large rubber bands to tie a handful of stems together for hang drying. As you can see I am not picky,,, but they hang just as well…
Removing Dried Leaves
When the leaves are thoroughly dry it is time to remove them from the stems. I try to keep it simple, the way that I do it is take a large plastic bag and put each bunch of dried leaves, leaf end down inside the bag, then squeeze the bag till all the leaves have fallen to the bottom of the bag.
When you have gotten all the leaves off the large stems, you will find that there will be some small stems that broke off too. The small ones are ok if they break easily, even if you choose to make powder Moringa out of them they should be fine. But the larger stems should be removed before making tea.
Just as any tea, Moringa leaves should be stored in a cool dry place,,, I have some glass storage jars that we found at the dollar store that I like to keep mine in…
When I grind the leaves I store them in the freezer, grinding them is as easy as putting leaves in a blender and turning it on… We, I should say Harvey puts some of the ground leaves in his oatmeal every day, I am not so consistent.

Now that the hard part is done,,, and you have dried Moringa leaves ready to use,,, Let’s make Moringa tea.
Hot Moringa Tea
My husband Harvey makes hot Moringa tea every day… His recipe is one cup of hot water, and about a teaspoon of leaves, let steep about 3 to 5 minutes, he says till it starts looking like tea, enjoy with or without sweetener.
Cold Moringa Tea
I don’t make this every day, but I have started drinking cold Moringa tea, I like it and it is as easy to make as a hot tea, the only difference is I make more than a cup at a time, and I refrigerate it.
I start with a small saucepan of filtered water and bring it to a boil, remove it from the heat, then add a Tea Ball full of Moringa leaves and let it steep, like Harvey I don’t have an exact time for you, when it looks like a strong tea, I add it to a large pitcher and add filtered water till I think it tastes good and not too strong… I add quite a lot of water, maybe 2-3 quarts or more, you will have to taste it, try adding one quart of water at a time, then taste…
You could sweeten it if you like, I am fine with unsweetened…
Stevia or Honey would be a good choice, if adding honey I would add it while the tea is still hot or warm, honey dissolves easier in hot rather than cold.
